Louie Celerio

It is a known fact that many filipinos have been an avid komiks reader once in their lifetime. How many would raise their hands to acknowledge they learned to read and developed their reading comprehensions because of komiks? Almost no one can resist the urge to pick up a komiks magazine in the stand and scrutinize its fine illustrations. Nowadays, a lot of komiks fans can definitely remember the face of every characters they once admired.

First of many komiks illustrators, WebKomiks is proud to introduce to you the creator of the many unforgettable komiks characters you once loved!

Meet LOUIE DAVID CELERIO! Better known in the komiks industry as simply Louie Celerio or Ka Louie.

For people who don't know much of Ka Louie, he is the fifth son of one of the Philippines National Artist and famous Songwriter, LEVI CELERIO. I am afraid that the later generations must have not known anymore these fine talents of our country. Likewise, don't mistake Louie of his almost equally famous brother, Joey, whom one of these days we will feature in here as well. Louie and Joey Celerio are both fine komiks illustrators.

A simple guy, observant and bespectacled persona, Louie seems oblivious to the fact that lots of his adorable drawings and illustrations undeniably catapulted him to the realm as one of the pillars of the Philippines' komiks industry. He started his komiks career in 1970, way back when the WebKomiks publisher was starting his first steps! When this writer first met Louie Celerio, he can't resist the ecstatic excitement to finally meet the guy who creates many of his admired komiks characters. Yes, I humbly would say am a fan of Louie Celerio too!

In December 1974, the beautiful JULIET MANANSALA captured the heart of our Louie. They are blessed with one daughter, Levilyn, now an 18 year old lass. Note the young lady's name, Levi-lyn, definitely a derivative of her grandfather's name, Levi Celerio.

Atlas Publications who once dominated the printed komiks industry gave Louie Celerio his first break into komiks. Written by Nini Bayas, "SUSUBUKIN: PAYONG HOSTESS", Louie fondly recalls how it brought a shiver to him to finally offer and lavishly pour his soul into giving visuals of Nini's masterpiece. First is always first and most often the unforgettable one according to Louie.

A newly discovered talent, Louie did not escape the meticulous taste of Mr. Antonio Tenorio, once the Editor-In-Chief of Affiliated Publication. Mr. Tenorio created the tandem of Virgo Villa and Louie Celerio thru "DOREEN and the MOVIE FAN". That was the first break of Louie into illustrating komiks novels which of course was not his last.

Tossed into the limelight, Louie was summoned by Mr. Ramon Marcelino, the Editor-In-Chief of Ace Publications, to illustrate the novels of another filipino komiks great, Carlo J. Caparas. "MOVIE KING" and "I'M THE GREATEST" which both novels instantly became a hit at the komiks stands enjoying the weekly hordes of followers too<p><img src="/images/stories/illustrators/Louie_Celerio_1.jpg" mce_src="/images/stories/illustrators/Louie_Celerio_1.jpg" border="0" alt="Louie Celerio" title="Louie Celerio" hspace="10" width="120" align="left"></p><hr id="system-readmore"><p>It is a known fact that many filipinos has been an avid komiks reader once in their lifetime. Graphic Arts Service, Inc., under Mrs. Cresencia P. Paguio, the publications Managing Editor, brought "KAMAY NI HILDA", written by Pablo S. Gomez into Louie's brushes. The list of Pablo and Louie's joined artistry includes "ADA", "MUTYA", "MAMAW", "ANAK NG DEMONYO", "ROSA MISTICA", "DOGGIE" and the made-into-movie, "MACHETE".</p><div align="center"><img src="/images/stories/illustrators/Louie_Celerio_2.jpg" mce_src="/images/stories/illustrators/Louie_Celerio_2.jpg" border="0" alt="Louie in group photo with Jojo Galicia, Florence Maglalang, and Andrew O. Cabral! Unforgettable titles of Nerissa's include "UPANG MULI KANG MABUHAY", "HINATING KORONA", "NAKAGAPOS NA PUSO", "MAHIRAP ANG MAGMAHAL" and another movie hit, "BUKAS LULUHOD ANG MGA TALA".<br><br>"THERE WAS A BOY, THERE WAS A GIRL" and "BRUNA BANGENGAK" were Louie's hit novels via Bulaklak Publications of the now-still famous, Mars Ravelo.<br><br>Louie lovingly recalls the unfaltering guidance of his komiks mentors, Mr. Hal Santiago, Emil Rodriguez, Rico Rival and Abe Ocampo. From them he learned to draw and up to these days continue to draw.<br><br>Burgos Elementary School must be very proud to have the now famous Louie Celerio among its studentry. He proceeded his secondary level at Elpidio Quirino High School, formerly known as Mapa High School. It was in this school that Louie discovered his love in drawings and caricatures. The nation's premier collegiate, University of the Philippines, bestowed Louie a Course Certificate in Fine Arts.<br><br>What else can Louie say about his portfolio of achievements? There are so much more to say but the pages may not be enough at all. The local printed komiks industry might be gasping for survival yet a Louie Celerio, a renowned talent, will not run out of rendering his talent. WebKomiks, your Online Komiks Stand, aims to showcase the RE-EMERGENCE of the filipino home grown talents in the likes of Mr. Celerio and other greats! As an opening salvo, Mr. Celerio rendered our WebKomiks Love Stories cover page!<br><br>We look forward of your continued patronage as we will try to bring forth once and for all the writers and illustrators you once loved!</p>
